Happy to Have the Blues (celebrate with me!)

Notice the mismatched ribbon spools on the Corona, a fun little quirk on a dearly beloved machine.
I actually had to do a few drafts of the typecast because I ran into a talkative good ol boy at the laundromat who wanted to tell me his lifestory.  I obliged him and finished my work at home this time.
A close up to show the condition of the paint and details.  No flash makes it look black, flash makes it too blue, but you get the idea.  The case is also in great and workable condition.  Worth skipping a few meals if that is what it comes to.  I LOVE this machine.
It was love at first sight.  Seeing it perched on my desk still feels weird, I've wanted a Corona 4 for so long now!

  1. Not many of my typewriters have names but one for the Corona 4 just came to me: Frieta which is mispronunciation of Friede which is German for joy because this typewriter has already brought me great joy and Aggie began a trend of using feminine names.

  2. Congratulations on your great new typewriter! When I finally got a Corona 4 I was impressed with its solidity and general high quality; they improved a lot compared to the 3.

Rubbing a platen with Soft Scrub sometimes helps to get rid of the hard, slick outermost layer and provide grip. You can follow up with a thin layer of brake fluid if you want to soften up the rubber more.

    1. Thanks for the advice, it's worth a shot because at the very least it will be as bad as it already is. I'll have to remember that next time I go out shopping.

I really like the Corona 4. A lot.

  3. Oooh! Exciting!

I'm awaiting the return of my own recovered Corona 4 platen at the moment, so I understand your joy and share your anticipation. (:

Let me guess your favorite Royal: the late-40's QDL? (simply because it's my favorite)

    1. Ooh, you are close, but that is not my favorite machine. I'll have to introduce it next post. I have never used a late 40s QDL but I'll have to keep an eye out now. I have experience on the ones right before and right after however...

  4. Made in March 1927, I just learned how to decode the serial numbers on old Coronas.
